A Source of Light

A Source of Light

President Quinn’s Weekly Message

California Santa Rosa Mission

September 16th, 2024

Thank you for your participation in our zone conferences last week. Sister Christensen was so impressed with each of you. Your comments throughout the two days were thoughtful and inspired. She was impressed and moved by the Spirit as she met with you. It was a wonderful two days!

As companionships, districts, and zones please review your notes from zone conference to identify things you can do to work more closely with members. I look forward to discussing the things you choose to do in our upcoming interviews.

One of the most powerful contributions you bring to members where you serve is the light of the Spirit you carry with you. We are taught in the scriptures that God is the source of light:

“That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day.” (D&C 50:24)

This verse teaches us that our spiritual light grows as our discipleship to Jesus Christ deepens. I see light in the countenances of each of you. This light testifies of your discipleship. Samuel the Lamanite prophesied that a sign of the Savior’s birth would be light:

“Therefore, there shall be one day and a night and a day, as if it were one day and there were no night; and this shall be unto you for a sign; for ye shall know of the rising of the sun and also of its setting; therefore they shall know of a surety that there shall be two days and a night; nevertheless the night shall not be darkened; and it shall be the night before he is born.

“And behold, there shall a new star arise, such an one as ye never have beheld; and this also shall be a sign unto you.” (Helaman 14:4-5)

It is a perfect witness that as the Savior entered the word, the sign of his coming was more light. During His ministry, I am confidant all who beheld the Savior could not help but behold His light (John 3:1-2). Even those who resisted and persecuted Him, knew there was something special about Him.

As I studied and pondered the words of Samuel the Lamanite, I have wondered if my discipleship is a sign to others that the Savior is a source of light in my life. What signs of discipleship do my words and actions give to others? Do I constantly share and project the light of Jesus Christ to others?

I invite us all to reflect on the signs our discipleship to Jesus Christ give to others. I know our actions and lives can be a source of light. The Savior has invited us to be a “light” to others (Matthew 5:16). Thank you for the light you share.

We begin interviews today in Eureka. Our interview schedule has changed this transfer due to some personal commitments for Sister Quinn and me. Please work with your zone leadership to schedule your interview. We look forward to being with each of you soon.

Love,

President Quinn
