Fighting For Our Goals
Fighting For Our Goals
President Quinn’s Weekly Message
California Santa Rosa Mission
November 4th, 2024
Thank you for a wonderful week of zone conferences. We enjoyed being with you last week. It is always good to be together. I was pleased with the instruction given in our conferences. I hope you can apply the lessons taught on goal setting, planning, and discipleship.
Over the last few days, I have thought about the comment made by one of the mission leaders in the film we watched on goal setting and planning. He said that his missionaries would “fight” each day to achieve the goals they had set. I admire the power and urgency behind the image of missionaries “fighting” to achieve their goals. I believe we can do better “fighting” for our goals and plans in CASRM. I hope to see more effort to fulfill our missionary purpose and achieve our goals across CASRM.
During zone conferences last week, we spoke about lessons of discipleship taught to us by the striping warriors. These warriors also teach us a valuable lesson about the strength and blessings that come when we access the power of God to fight for our righteous goals:
“But behold, to my great joy, there had not one soul of them fallen to the earth; yea, and they had fought as if with the strength of God; yea, never were men known to have fought with such miraculous strength; and with such mighty power…” (Alma 56:56)
I love the image and promise of fighting with the Lord’s “strength” and “mighty power.” When we can access the Lord’s strength and power, it is impossible for us to fail in achieving our righteous goals. We learn several times throughout the Book of Mormon the blessings of strength and triumph that came to those who sought and relied on the strength of the Lord:
“Yea, in the strength of the Lord did we go forth to battle against the Lamanites; for I and my people did cry mightily to the Lord… And God did hear our cries and did answer our prayers; and we did go forth in his might… (Mosiah 9:17-18)
Each time the Nephite armies relied on the strength of the Lord versus their own strength, they were victorious. The same was true for the stripling warriors. We can find application of this truth in our missionary work here in CASRM. I have extended a challenge for each companionship in CASRM to have one baptism before January 1, 2025. I promise the Lord will bless you to achieve this goal as you qualify for His might and strength – but you must fight for it! The advisory is working against you. Heavenly power is available to you. That power will come as you earnestly seek it through sincere prayer, faith, and effort.
As a companionship, please seek the inspiration of the Lord in setting goals and making plans for at least one baptism in the next two months. Once you have set the goal and made your plans – go to work! Fight for it! Nothing grows faith and accesses heavenly power more than sincere effort. Demonstrate your faith and earnestness to achieve this goal through your hourly, daily, and weekly efforts. I promise the Lord will see your efforts and bless you!
We continue to make good progress towards our mission goal of 66 baptisms. We had 4 baptisms this weekend. Well done! That makes for a total of 16 baptisms since the challenge was issued. We have 11 friends on date next weekend. Please pray that our friends will be faithful to their baptismal invitation and that we can do all that is needed to help them be baptized.
Sister Quinn and I look forward to seeing most of you this week in interviews.
Love,
President Quinn
