Mightier Than All The Earth
Mightier Than All The Earth

I hope you all enjoyed general conference. What a blessing to be taught by prophets, seers, and revelators! I was moved watching the missionary choir in the session Saturday evening. I couldn’t help but think what an honor it is to serve with you here in CASRM. My heart was full of love for each of you.
Several years ago, I was asked by a client to submit a proposal for a critical assignment. I worked hard to prepare my firm’s response. I was doing other work for this client, so I had the opportunity to meet several times with the man who would choose the firm do the work. A week after submitting my proposal, I was informed another firm had been selected for the project. I was devastated. My firm really wanted this assignment – and I had failed to deliver it.
On receiving this news, I needed some time to reconcile and mourn the loss of this important project. I left the client’s offices to find a quiet place where I could be by myself. I walked alone for nearly an hour feeling sorry for myself and reflecting on what I could have done differently to win the project.
At the end of my walk, I remembered a brief conversation from a few days earlier when another manager at my client’s company mentioned a project they might be looking for assistance to complete. It was a small project, so I had not given it much thought. I decided to return to the client’s office to meet with this person to learn more about the help they needed. To make a long story short, I was able to win this small project. It eventually grew to generate several million dollars for my firm over the next two years. A much higher financial reward than the project not awarded to my firm.
I learned the important lesson that when we face setbacks, we need to keep working to find strategies that will allow us to accomplish our righteous ambitions. Nephi exemplified this when retrieving the brass plates from Laban. Twice Nephi and his brothers devised plans to obtain the plates. Twice their plans failed – the last time at the risk of their lives. Nephi didn’t allow these setbacks to dissuade him from accomplishing the errand the Lord had sent him on:
“And it came to pass that I spake unto my brethren, saying: Let us go up again unto Jerusalem, and let us be faithful in keeping the commandments of the Lord; for behold he is mightier than all the earth, then why not mightier than Laban and his fifty, yea, or even than his tens of thousands?” (1 Nephi 4:1)
What faith! We have set the goal of one baptism per companionship by the end of December. I invite you to follow Nephi’s example. Be obedient. Trust the Lord. Exercise faith through your actions. Seek the Lord’s guidance to achieve our mission goal. When setbacks occur, don’t give up. Instead, pause to seek the Lord’s inspired direction for strategies that will help you accomplish our mission goal. I know the Lord will fill your mind with inspired ideas as you seek His direction and act on them.
We’re making good progress on our goal of 66 baptisms by year end. Currently, we have been blessed with 6 baptisms. We have 11 friends on date for next weekend. Please join me in praying that these 11 friends remain committed to their baptismal dates for next weekend. This would be a beautiful miracle for these friends, the Church, and CASRM.
Love,
