Our Missionary Focus

Our Missionary Focus

President Quinn’s Weekly Message

California Santa Rosa Mission

April 8th, 2024

Sister Quinn and I continue to laugh about the April Fools emails I received last week. For a few hours on Monday, I was worried half the mission needed an emergency transfer.

Sister Quinn loved and was touched by the birthday cards she received from you. Most of them arrived on the same day. It was a wonderful surprise for her. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and good humor. You made it a memorable day for both of us.

I know that missionary work can be challenging and difficult. If it wasn’t, it wouldn’t be worth it. There are many important life and spiritual lessons to be learned in missionary work. I also know there is great joy found in missionary work. This joy is a payoff for the challenges you work through. President Nelson has taught:

“…the joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.” (General Conference October 2016)

This is wonderful counsel for us to remember when we are struggling to find joy in our missionary service. Remembering that the joy found in missionary service is not contingent on our circumstances or results, but on our focus is wise and inspired counsel. If you are not feeling joy as a missionary, you should make sure your focus is on the Savior. I am confident keeping your focus on the Savior will help you to feel joy in His service.

In CASRM, our focus will always be on Jesus Christ. This is His work. As His fulltime emissaries and lifelong disciples, we are blessed to be engaged in the work of building His kingdom in these last days. President Nelson has recently taught that there is no greater work on the earth today than gathering Israel. What a blessing to be the Lord’s hands at this time in this work!

I hope you enjoyed General Conference and found things to focus on. It was fun hearing Elder Stevenson speak of the Golden Gate Bridge and compare its towers to our love for Heavenly Father and for one another. I am confident we’ll use his instruction in our future training. We are blessed to be led by prophets, seers, and revelators. I testify they have been called and are sustained by Jesus Christ to lead His Church. I am grateful for their inspired counsel. Next week in my letter to you, I will share a few of my favorite quotes from conference. Sister Quinn and I look forward to seeing each of you in our interviews over the next two weeks. We are grateful to serve with you. Thank you for your faithfulness, goodness, and discipleship. We love you!
