Weak Places…Become Strong
Weak Places…Become Strong
President Quinn’s Weekly Message
California Santa Rosa Mission
August 19th, 2024
It has been a wonderful week of interviews with those of you serving in Fairfield, Vacafield, and Woodland. Thank you for taking the time to meet with us. We love seeing and visiting with you. We look forward to being with those of you serving in Napa, San Rafael, and Santa Rosa this week.
One of the key messages repeatedly taught in the Book of Mormon is the miraculous power of the atonement and grace of Jesus Christ to transform our weaknesses into our strengths. The prophet Moroni taught:
“And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.” (Ether 12:27)
What a wonderful promise from the Savior – our weaknesses can become our strengths through the grace offered to us by Jesus Christ. This lesson is also taught as we read about the transformation that took place in the cities of Ammonihah and Noah. When a Lamanite army was sent by Amalickiah to capture these two Nephite cities, a mighty change had occurred:
“But behold, to their astonishment, the city of Noah, which had hitherto been a weak place, had now, by the means of Moroni, become strong, yea, even to exceed the strength of the city Ammonihah. (Alma 49:14)
Previously, the cities of Ammonihah and Noah possessed weaknesses that made them targets for attack and capture by the Lamanites. The Lamanite leaders hoped to take advantage of these weaknesses. However, the weaknesses of these two cities had been taken away and they were now strong, capable of withstanding any attack of their enemy.
In the Book of Mormon, Captain Moroni represents a type of Jesus Christ to the Nephite nation. Through his loving and devoted labors and leadership, Captain Moroni provided protection, strength, and freedom to his people – as the Savior does for us.
Each of us has places of weakness that make us vulnerable to the temptations and influences of Satan. The Lord has promised that He has the capacity and means to strengthen us to overcome any weakness. Through following the teachings of righteous leaders, through hard work, through repentance, through surrounding ourselves with people of faith, and most importantly through faith in the Savior’s grace we can overcome our weaknesses. It does not matter what our weaknesses may be or how long we have struggled with them, the Lord can provide the strength we need to overcome them.
I testify to the redeeming and enabling power of the Savior’s Atonement. I know that by exercising faith in Him and the grace He offers us, our weaknesses can become our strengths. I have experienced the Savior’s redeeming and enabling power in my own life. I know He will do the same for you. I am grateful for the privilege we have to share this message with others.
Love,
President Quinn
