Mission Tour with Elder Peter Johnson - an Inspiring Week

President and Sister Quinn with Elder and Sister Johnson

Today (Sunday), as I sit down to type our mission update for the week, I feel a huge weight of relief come off my shoulders. I also feel a sweet impression of goodness wash over me. This last week was our mission tour. It was packed full of responsibilities, activities, and details. It was also a week full of love, ideas, testimonies, and learning.

We worked hard to get everything ready for the mission tour and visit of Elder Peter Johnson and his wife, Stephanie! When you have a general authority seventy come visit your mission, you sweat the details, and there are many details. We wanted to make things really nice for them. We also wanted our missionaries to have a wonderful learning experience and feel the love of their leaders.  It was an inspiring week. Everything we had planned went well! We so enjoyed learning from Elder and Sister Johnson.

Elder and Sister Johnson

We welcomed the Johnsons to the mission home Monday evening with dinner. They are such personable people - easy to visit with and fun to be around. They stayed with us for four nights in the mission home.

We started off Tuesday early driving to Napa to visit missionaries in their apartments. It is always good to see missionaries where they live. We then drove back to Santa Rosa where we spent the day participating in two district council meetings. We grabbed a late lunch and met up with four sets of missionaries to go out teaching for the evening. I love teaching with the missionaries!

We then had two days of mission conferences with training, instruction, and role playing. We had 86 missionaries attend the first day in Fairfield and 103 missionaries the second day in Santa Rosa. Thank you to Sister Nate and Sister Folsom and the senior missionaries who organized the lunches at these conferences!

Wednesday evening, we had the senior missionaries over to the mission home for dinner and instruction. Thursday evening we had the stake presidents and their wives over for dinner and instruction. Elder Johnson interviewed a few missionaries each day. Friday, we finished the mission tour with a meeting with our MLC (Mission Leader Council). President Quinn and I then sat down with the Johnsons for observations and feedback.  Elder Johnson spoke highly of our mission and missionaries. He said we had a culture of obedience and a strong focus on the Doctrine of Christ.

During the week we were instructed on the Doctrine of Christ. We role played how the gospel of Jesus Christ meets everyones’ needs. We discussed our missionary purpose in detail.  We were instructed about goal setting and accountability. We testified of Christ. Each evening we sat down with the Johnsons. Elder Johnson took the time to visit with us and answer any question we had. What a fabulous week!

We spoke in a stake conference Saturday evening in the Woodland Stake and then joined Santa Rosa in Stake Conference Sunday morning where Elder Johnson presided. He stayed the weekend to select a new stake president for the Santa Rosa Stake. We will miss serving with President Gary Kitchen and his wife Celeste. We whole heartily welcome President Cliff Johnson, the new stake president in Santa Rosa Elder Johnson asked us to bear our testimonies at stake conference. It is always such a sweet privilege to bear testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Here are a few photos from the week.
