None Were with Him

None Were with Him

President Quinn’s Weekly Message

California Santa Rosa Mission

March 25th, 2024

We welcome three new missionaries to CASRM – Hermana Miles, Elder Flake, and Elder Taukeiaho. We are grateful to have you join us. We look forward to serving with you.

Next Sunday we will celebrate Easter. I am looking forward to this day. I am grateful for the opportunity we have taken as a mission to prepare for Easter by reading the four gospels of the New Testament. In his April 2009 General Conference talk, entitled None Were with Him, Elder Holland delivered the following profound message:

“As we approach this holy week—Passover Thursday with its Paschal Lamb, atoning Friday with its cross, Resurrection Sunday with its empty tomb—may we declare ourselves to be more fully disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, not in word only and not only in the flush of comfortable times but in deed and in courage and in faith, including when the path is lonely and when our cross is difficult to bear. This Easter week and always, may we stand by Jesus Christ “at all times and in all things, and in all places that [we] may be in, even until death,” for surely that is how He stood by us when it was unto death and when He had to stand entirely and utterly alone.”

I renew the invitation Sister Quinn and I have extended to CASRM – to use this opportunity as fulltime emissaries of Jesus Christ to become His lifelong disciples. I hope this week you will pause each day to ponder the events that took place over two millennia ago in the city of Jerusalem. Ponder the teachings and symbolism given by the Savior during the first sacrament administered to His devoted apostles. I hope the sacrament will hold special meaning for you next Sunday and going forward in your life. Remember the infinite suffering and humiliation that were part of the Savior’s Atoning Sacrifice in Gethsemane and on the cross of Golgotha. When you think your life is unfair, remember that no one endured more unfairness than the perfect son of our Father in Heaven. Our Savior endured incomprehensible suffering that we might have a way to be cleansed from our sins, weaknesses, and shortcomings. Please remember His glorious and infinite victory over the grave. As He testified to His dear friend Martha:

“I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.” (John 11:25-26)

I pray that this week, as we contemplate the events of the Savior’s final week in mortality, our discipleship to Him will deepen. That we will anchor ourselves and testimonies on Him – the Rock. That we will be more determined to stand boldly and unapologetically as His lifelong disciples.

We look forward to seeing and being with you this week during the mission tour. Thank you for your faithfulness, goodness, and discipleship. Sister Quinn and I love you!

Love,

President Quinn
