Go Deep by Digging Deep
Go Deep by Digging Deep

I remind you of our mission motto that disciples of Jesus Christ “go deep”. By this I mean they consistently seek ways to deepen their discipleship to the Savior. In the book of Luke, the Savior taught a parable that illustrates the blessings that come to those who dig deep to anchor the foundation of their lives to Jesus Christ:
“Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
“He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
“But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.” (Luke 6:47-49)
In this parable Jesus Christ is the rock. The house represents the spiritual life we are each building for ourselves. The lesson taught by the Savior in this parable is that safety from the storms or challenges of life will be endured if we dig deep and build the spiritual foundation of our life on Him. In his most recent General Conference address, Elder Bednar taught ways we each can anchor our spiritual foundation to the rock of Jesus Christ:
“…the foundation of our lives must be connected to the rock of Christ if we are to remain firm and steadfast. The sacred covenants and ordinances of the Savior’s restored gospel can be compared to the anchor pins and steel rods used to connect a building to bedrock. Every time we faithfully receive, review, remember, and renew sacred covenants, our spiritual anchors are secured ever more firmly and steadfastly to the “rock” of Jesus Christ.
I try each day to deepen my discipleship to Jesus Christ. I do this through scripture study, sincere prayer, honoring my covenants, serving faithfully in my current assignment, and recognizing my many blessings. I try to repent when I fall short. I invite each of you to do the same.
In my first message to CASRM as president, I extended the invitation to “go deep” in building your discipleship on the Rock, Jesus Christ. I extend that invitation again. Anchoring our spiritual foundation to Jesus Christ is a lifelong endeavor. Please consider your conversion to the gospel of Jesus Christ a lifelong endeavor. It begins but does not end on your mission. Your mission is a unique time to devote yourself as a disciple of Jesus Christ – to begin following and honoring gospel principles that will anchor you to the Rock – our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ for this life and the next. Note that the storms of life were experienced by both the wise and the foolish man. Our discipleship to the Savior will not protect us from all of life’s difficulties, but it will allow us to endure them well – to emerge triumphant, clean, pure, and whole.
Please know of the love and confidence Sister Quinn and I have for each of you.
Love,
President Quinn
