Live After the Manner of Happiness
Live After the Manner of Happiness
President Quinn’s Weekly Message
California Santa Rosa Mission
February 19th, 2024
Sister Quinn and I enjoyed being with you last week in zone conferences. We love seeing and being with you. We are grateful for the instructions and examples shared by our mission leaders. We have been impressed by the efforts many of you have made in just the last few days to apply the training you received on finding through social media. I promise our mission will be blessed to find friends prepared to receive the gospel through utilizing social media more effectively and consistently. Thank you!
During our training in zone conferences last week, Sister Quinn and I shared how putting on the armor of God can bless us with power in our world of growing spiritual contention, confusion, and chaos. The armor of God will protect us – and bless us with peace and joy.
Earlier today, I was studying in 2 Nephi 5. This chapter provides the account of Nephi and his follower’s separating themselves from the Lamanites to find safety. After traveling for “many days”, Nephi and his people settle in a new land. We read:
“And it came to pass that we lived after the manner of happiness.” (verse 27)
What a beautiful statement! Who doesn’t want to live a happy life!?! Careful reading of this chapter reveals what led to the happiness of Nephi and his people:
§ Separated themselves from destructive influences (verse 5)
§ Followed counsel of a living prophet (verse 6)
§ Built a society of self-reliance and industry (verse 11)
§ Cherished the words of God found in the scriptures (verse 12)
§ Prepared themselves against future challenges (verse 14)
§ Honored and worshipped God in the temple (verse 16)
I invite you to spend time this week studying 2 Nephi 5. Please reflect on the formula Nephi teaches us to live a life “after the manner of happiness”. I testify the practices listed above will help you enjoy true happiness in life. Please consider ways you can incorporate these practices into your life. I know the Lord desires you be happy.
Thank you for your faithfulness, goodness, and discipleship. We love you! Sister Quinn and I pray the Lord’s choicest and abundant blessings upon each of you.
Love,
President Quinn
