Up and Doing
Up and Doing
President Quinn’s Weekly Message
California Santa Rosa Mission
February 12th, 2024
We extend a warm welcome to the 17 missionaries who joined us last Friday. We are grateful to serve with you in CASRM. Our mission is stronger because you are here.
Last week my message encouraged us to pray “oft” in seeking inspiration and blessings from our Father in Heaven. I encouraged us to find time each day to kneel in prayer. I also encouraged us to carry a prayer in our hearts as we go through each day. Prayer is an essential source of spiritual strength and inspiration.
My message this week is that prayer is most effective when combined with action. President Nelson has taught that “the Lord loves effort”. The Lord often requires that we be “up and doing” (Alma 60:24) after we pray so that we are in a position for Him to answer our prayers and provide the inspiration we seek. Several years ago in the Mission President Seminar, President Oaks taught:
“…most revelations to the children of God come when they are on the move.”
Brigham Young also counseled:
“More testimonies are built on our feet rather than on our knees.”
I have found this counsel to be true in my own life. Answers to my prayers have come as I’ve gone about living my life – moving forward each day to do my best to qualify for the guidance and blessings I’ve sought. I believe that our testimonies are built on experience.
Please remember that Peter’s discipleship began by being “up and doing” by following the Savior’s invitation to “launch out into the deep” (Luke 5:4). Peter’s work on that day was the beginning of his lifelong discipleship to the Savior. I testify that as we combine our prayers with effort, our discipleship to Jesus Christ will deepen and we will be blessed in great great abundance.
We look forward to seeing you this week in zone conferences. Thank you for your faithfulness, goodness, and discipleship. We love you! Sister Quinn and I pray the Lord’s choicest and abundant blessings upon each of you.
Love,
President Quinn
