October General Conference Notables

October 2023 General Conference Notables

President Quinn’s Weekly Message

California Santa Rosa Mission

October 10th, 2023

Let me first welcome the new missionaries that joined us last week -- twenty-seven of you. Welcome! We are delighted to have you here in CASRM. We look forward to serving with you.

I enjoyed October General Conference. I was inspired by the messages. As promised, I would like to share a select few of my favorite quotes:

Elder David A. Bednar, In the Path of Their Duty: “You who today are pressing forward in the path of your duty are the strength of the Savior’s restored Church.”

Elder Robert M. Daines, Sir, We Would Like to See Jesus: “When prophets and apostles talk of covenants, they aren’t like coaches yelling out from (red velvet) bleachers, telling us to “try harder!” They want us to see our covenants are fundamentally about relationships and can be a cure for spiritual face blindness. They are not rules to earn His love; He already loves you perfectly. Our challenge is to understand and shape our life to that love.

“Covenants are the shape of God’s embrace.”

Elder Joaquin E. Costa, The Power of Jesus Christ in our Daily Lives: “Our covenants are not merely transactional; they are transformational.”

Elder Gary E. Stevenson, Promptings of the Spirit: “The constant companionship of the Holy Ghost is one of the greatest spiritual gifts Latter-day Saints enjoy.”

Elder Dale G. Renlund, Jesus Christ is the Treasure: “Focus on Jesus Christ. He is our Savior and Redeemer, the “mark” to whom we should look, and our greatest treasure.”

President Russell M. Nelson, Think Celestial!:“Today, to assist you to qualify for the rich blessings Heavenly Father has for you, I invite you to adopt the practice of “thinking celestial”! Thinking celestial means being spiritually minded. We learn from the Book of Mormon prophet Jacob that “to be spiritually-minded is life eternal.”

These are just a few of the many messages from General Conference that I made note of. For the next six months, I plan on studying the talks from General Conference in my daily personal study. I invite you to do the same. As you study these talks, ask yourself how these messages can help you “go deep” in your discipleship to Jesus Christ and in fulfilling your missionary purpose.

Sister Quinn and I look forward to seeing you this week in zone conference. Interview and zone conference weeks have become our favorites because we get to see and spend time with you.

Sister Quinn and I love you! Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you.

Love,

President Quinn
