Begin to be Up and Doing.
“Begin To Be Up and Doing”
President Quinn’s Weekly Message
California Santa Rosa Mission
October 2nd, 2023
I hope you were able to enjoy conference weekend. What a remarkable privilege to be instructed by prophets, seers, and revelators! I am confident you each learned something you can apply in your missionary service and discipleship to Jesus Christ. In my letter to you next week, I will share a few of the things I learned that I believe will make me a better mission president for CASRM and disciple of Jesus Christ.
Now that we have received – and I hope recorded – inspired instruction, I ask that you follow the invitation Captain Moroni issued to Pahoran, “…begin to be up and doing” (Alma 60:24). This is excellent counsel for us as missionaries and in life.
Each April and October, I leave General Conference inspired by what I have been taught. I am determined to be better and more faithful. Unfortunately, over time the routines and demands of life press back upon me, I forget to put into practice the counsel that inspired me during General Conference. I forget to “be up and doing” the things I have been taught.
My invitation to you this week is that you pick 2-3 of the messages that inspired you the most during General Conference, then apply the instruction given to us in Preach My Gospel (Chapter 8, How to Set Goals and Make Plans to Accomplish Them, page 151):
“Goal setting and planning are acts of faith. Goals reflect the desires of your heart and your vision of helping yourself and others come to the Savior.
“Make your goal setting and planning an inspired experience. Pray earnestly, exercise faith, counsel with your companion, and follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit. As you plan this way, you will feel the Lord working through you to bless others.”
As we set goals, develop plans, and “begin to be up and doing” we will achieve the changes we need to be better missionaries and to strengthen our discipleship to Jesus Christ – to “go deep”. In your weekly letter to me, please share the goals and plans you have made after General Conference.
Sister Quinn and I look forward to welcoming the 31 missionaries that will be joining us this week. All but four of our companionships in CASRM are being changed with the arrival of these new missionaries. Change is still coming. We are expecting at least 20 new missionaries in our next transfer. What a blessing! Let’s do our best to see that these new missionaries learn and embrace our culture of “going deep” in high expectations and love.
Thank you for your goodness. Sister Quinn and I love you! Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you.
Love,
President Quinn
