The Mission Home - A Gathering Place

Mission Home on Cobblestone Drive in Santa Rosa, California.

I love gathering people. I love connecting with people. As a mission leader I so enjoy opening the mission home to all of our missionaries. It is wonderful to visit with everyone and get to know them. I want each person to feel loved and to know that they belong! I believe the Savior is pleased when people gather in His name. I am grateful to have a mission home that the Church provides for President Quinn and me to gather our missionaries.

Gathering last week to welcome the new missionaries.

President Bragg, our Area President, affectionately calls the mission home here in Santa Rosa, the Cottage in the Woods. I agree with this charming description. The home is also in a great location for us, being about an eight minute drive to the mission office on Badger Road and about a five minute drive to Highway 101. We like the convenience since we’re on 101 a lot, traveling to all the areas in our mission.

Last year the Church’s facilities management group came to inspect the home. They told us it was time for them to “refresh” the home. I was delighted to help out. President Quinn and I stayed in a hotel for two weeks while the work was being done. I worked closely with the management group to add suggestions for the home. The part that I was the most excited about was when we received permission to have a wall opened up between the family room and the living room so that the large space in the living room could be used more effectively and we could gather larger groups of missionaries. Thanks to Stacey Still from the Church’s FM group for all her work and support.

I thought you may enjoy seeing the home. Here below is a video of the home. I am disappointed that the color in the video is dull. The missionaries will tell you how much I love decorating with blue accents and you can’t see how pretty it really is from this video that I took with my phone.

If you click on the square in the lower right corner it will enlarge the video.

For the people familiar with the home, you may find it interesting to see the sliding door in the family room was made into a French door. The florescent lighting in the kitchen ceiling was replaced with canned lighting. The floors were refinished and the walls painted. The furniture, lighting fixtures, and art were also updated.

We put a table and chairs in the living room, so that we can seat more people at tables. Including the deck table and bar stools we can seat comfortably 40 people for dinner.

The living room table set for a dinner.

Thank you for your interest in my weekly mission updates. You are invited to come visit us at the home! We would love to introduce you to our missionaries and have you see more of what we are doing as mission leaders. Have a great day!
