Honorably Returning - Home

Elder Hobi and President Quinn

It is with deep reverence I write this mission update. This week one of our missionaries, Elder Hobi, received the tragic news that his father had unexpectedly passed away. His father had been doing his morning workout when he suddenly died.

Elder Hobi has been a missionary here in the California Santa Rosa Mission for over 18 months. He has worked hard and served well. President Quinn spoke to his father a few months ago. His father shared how proud he was of his son! Elder Hobi has just a few transfers left before his release date. His mother, their bishop, their stake president, and President Quinn. along with Elder Hobi, decided it was best for him to return home to be a support and a strength to his mother and young siblings. He returns home honorably. We love him and will miss him!

All the CASRM missionaries have united in prayer, fasting, and love for their friend and fellow missionary, Elder Hobi. President Quinn gave Elder Hobi a tender priesthood blessing before he left for home on Saturday. The Lord has many beautiful promises and great blessings in store for this sweet young man.

As President Quinn and I watched Elder Hobi, wearing a suit and tie with a backpack slung across his back and ticket in hand, walk down the security corridor towards his gate at the airport, our hearts ached as we thought about the great loss in his life and the responsibilities that will be placed on his thin, young shoulders. Then I thought about those awaiting his arrival. There will be former missionary companions waiting at the airport. His bishop, his stake president, his mom, his family, friends, and ward members are there to love him and welcome him home with open arms. Thinking about this love, I also thought about Elder Hobi’s father. I am sure there are many loving family members and friends surrounding him as he honorably returns home. What an abundance of love! I am grateful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ that gives me this hope and knowledge.
