Inspiration and Ideas - Mission Leader Seminar

Map of the North American West Area (NAW) for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Portland Oregon was the destination for a four day North American West (NAW) Area Mission Leadership Seminar this past week. Twenty-nine couples who are serving as mission leaders in California, Oregon, Washington, parts of Canada, Alaska, and Hawaii attend this semi-annual event. I’m grateful for these seminars, It is wonderful to be taught by the area presidency and visit with other mission leaders, receiving inspiration and exchanging ideas. It is also a little bit like a four-day therapy session as we receive much needed validation, thanks, and friendship!

Praise goes to Angie Walker the executive assistant to the area president, Mark Bragg. She organizes the event and does a masterful job. We receive a notebook of information including schedules, bios of all the mission leaders and references of the area authority seventies, along with a welcome bag full of treats from local businesses.  Every detail is thought out and we are taken good care of and well fed.

We began the seminar by attending an endowment session in the Portland Temple. It is a beautiful temple, with trees outside full of cherry blossoms this time of year. The seminar ended with an enjoyable sunset dinner boat cruise along the Willamette River. It was a beautiful evening, We spent most of our time in a conference room being taught and trained. The teachings were centered on the Savior. In fact we received a gift of a framed picture entitled “The Gentle Shepherd.” It is clear that as we center our lives and our missionaries on our Savior Jesus Christ, we will find joy peace, and miracles!

We were able to visit with some old friends, Dean and Colleen Andersen. They were just called to take the place of mission leaders in Honolulu Hawaii who had to leave immediately due to an urgent family matter.

We are back home now and are super excited to implement all the new ideas with our missionaries. Mark and I sat down and went over each other’s notes. We have a lot of teaching material for mission leadership council and zone conferences. It was a great week. I hope you have a great week coming up. Thanks again for reading.
