Two Truths and One Lie - Interview Week

During interviews these past two weeks I asked the missionaries to guess which statement of mine is a lie: I have skied in the Alps in Switzerland. I was baptized in the Tabernacle on Temple Square. I broke my arm when I was three by falling down the stairs. I then asked them to tell me two truths and one lie about themselves. This turned out to be a really fun way to have each missionary open up to me and visit so I can get to know them better. I sit with the missionaries out in the hallway while they wait for their turn to be interviewed by President Quinn. I now have pages of information about our missionaries that I collected during the interviews.

Mark and I travel to the different zones Tuesday through Friday for two weeks during every transfer so that Mark can interview each missionary.  Interviewing with the president every six weeks is important. This gives us the opportunity to connect with each missionary on a one-to-one basis. We can check in on their mental, spiritual, and physical health. Missionaries come with questions or concerns to talk to Mark about. Questions such as something to do with their mission or their companion, or a doctrinal question. They may need a boost out of discouragement. They may ask for a priesthood blessing. They are glad to visit and get some ideas for their missionary service. Mark does a wonderful job with the interviews! He is wise and loving.

So, you may be wondering which statement is my lie. I never broke my arm as a three-year-old. Did you guess correctly?!

The week started off on Monday/P-day when we invited the Napa zone over for a pickleball tournament and a bar-b-que. It was fun. We have some really good pickleball players in the mission. They don’t hold back when playing Mark and me, even when we remind them we have transfer power.  Ha ha!

Napa Zone p-day. We have pickleball courts right next to the mission home.

The week ended on Saturday with me speaking to the Ukiah Stake Relief Society at their annual conference. Their theme was “Safety in the Storm” and I was asked to speak on being “Anchored to the Savior.” We then drove to Vacaville to speak at the Stake Conference there during their Saturday evening session.  It was a busy but great week!

Thank you for following our website! love, Elaine
