Miracle Martin - Serving the Lord
Sister Martin
This mission update is written with the permission of Sister Martin.
Sister Martin arrived in the California Santa Rosa Mission in November, 2024. Sister Martin has some health challenges. We had visited with her in a pre-mission phone call to discuss how to best support her while on a mission. We were excited to meet her. As she got off the plane she looked well and happy. Unfortunately, by her second day here she was beginning to experience some unwanted symptoms.

I quickly got her into an appointment with our mission doctor Rachel Mitchell. We learned that the medication she was taking was causing her to be greatly fatigued. Dr. Mitchell felt that weaning her off this medicine and starting her on another would be a better therapeutic choice for her. Consulting with our nurse, Sister Schneider, the area medical advisor, Elder Nielsen, and Dr. Mitchell we were concerned about her being on a mission and undergoing this medication change. Mission Medical advised that she be transferred to a service mission in her home mission where she could continue to serve and receive the medical care that would keep her healthy and strong.
I knew this would break her heart because she loves teaching and has a great desired to serve a teaching mission. I also knew she would be an amazing service missionary because of her vibrant personality and willingness to work hard, She would have so much to offer serving in this way. She is excited and willing to serve the Lord.
Taking everything into consideration President Quinn and I prayerfully made the difficult decision to have her transfer home to a service mission. We knew we would miss her. We felt it was the right thing to do.
Sister Smart and Sister Martin
Sister Martin was disappointed. As we talked to her and her parents Sister Martin began to see many miracles in her short service here in the California Santa Rosa Mission.
It was a miracle that she was called on a teaching mission
It was a miracle that she was able to attend the MTC and she was grateful for her experience there and the classes she was able to attend.
It was a miracle that she met and consulted with Dr. Mitchell. It turned out that her home doctor had moved.
It was a miracle she can continue to see Dr. Mitchell in her home mission of Sacramento.
It was a miracle that she could get on a better medication regiment.
It was a miracle she could attend our new missionary training.
It was a miracle that she had been companions with Sister Smart. They became close friends.
It was a miracle Pres. Quinn, and I could meet her and serve with her for a short time in the California Santa Rosa Mission.
It was a miracle she had some proselyting experiences here.
It is a miracle that service missions are now available!
As we went over all the miracles, I told her that I would now refer to her as Miracle Martin! The Lord has truly guided her path.
I saw her a few weeks ago and she was looking and feeling great! She is busy as a service missionary and is also able to do some teaching with the missionaries in her new mission. She is strong and determined, and enjoying her service mission, where she can serve the Lord and manage her health at the same time.
We have other missionaries that have transferred home to service missions for health reasons and we see miracles in their lives. I receive a weekly email from another one of our missionaries who was transferred home to finish her mission as a service missionary. She is awesome and writes a wonderful weekly update to family and friends. She is having a marvelous experience and is doing so much good as she shares her talents in the many places she is now serving! What a blessing these missionaries are as they continue to serve the Lord with all their mind, might, and strength. They’re doing so much good! I am proud of them and their willingness to continue serving and to finish their missions in a strong way!
