Conference Speaks to Our Hearts - Many Favorite Talks

Elders Hill, Ritchie, Clark, and Wright visiting with me at interviews.

“Oh Sister Quinn, that is a hard question there are so many good ones.” A missionary tells me after asking him, “what was your favorite General Conference talk?” This last weekend, April 5th and 6th, was The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 195th semi-annual General Conference. There were 32 speakers during five, two-hour sessions over the two days.

It was fun talking to missionaries during interviews about their favorite talks - talks that spoke to their hearts. I loved listening to the spiritual depth of the missionaries as they shared their insights from the conference.

You know, sometimes you see missionaries doing something silly, even something immature and I quickly remind myself they are young 18- and 19-year-olds. Then they turn around and show a depth of spirituality maturity that makes me sit in awe.

When it comes to a favorite talk, at first I thought that there may be one all of the missionaries have in common. It appears now this is not the case as there are many different favorites mentioned! I asked the senior missionaries for their favorites, too. They also agreed that was a difficult question! Here are some of the talks that spoke to our missionaries’ hearts.

Elders Hunt, Galvan, and Branson.

Sister Tamera Runia – Say yes to repentance and to our infinite value.

Elder Holland – Be humble as a little child.

Elder Shumway  - Rejoice in progress. Participate to prepare.

President Nelson- Our confidence can wax strong in the presence of God, right now.

Elder R. Rasband – Hastening the work, Give God quality time.

Sister Johnson - Faith will make us spiritually whole, while weakness exits.

Elder Strong  - A heart to see how Jesus Christ sees others.

Elder Kearon - The greatest gift to receive is the truth that you are a child of God.

Elder Gimenez – Love for the Savior is my why.

Elder Uchtdorf - Unity is not to have everyone stand in the same place; it is to have everyone face in the same direction - toward Jesus Christ.

We enjoyed watching the Sunday morning session in the mission home with the missionaries from the Santa Rosa Zone - 25 missionaries. I kept up the tradition of making cinnamon rolls for the group.

A few more numbers from General Conference that I find interesting: The conference is streamed and broadcasted into around 70 languages and then is later translated into over 100 languages. There was a total of 98,397 people who attended the conference both in the Conference Center and in the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City. They came from all over the world.

This week we also held MLC (Missionary Leadership Council) at the mission home. It is always a bit snug, yet it is so nice gathering in a home whenever possible. My nephew Nate Hoole and his wife Madie dropped in to visit us. They are both returned missionaries. We had them speak to our missionaries at the beginning of MLC. They did a great job.

Here are some photos from the week:
