“Like Unto Yourselves”
“Like Unto Yourselves”
President Quinn’s Weekly Message
California Santa Rosa Mission
July 22nd, 2024
This Wednesday we will bid farewell to 17 remarkable missionaries and welcome 17 more. Sister Quinn and I are grateful for the service and example of our departing missionaries. The leadership and discipleship of these missionaries has been a great blessing to CASRM. We will miss you! We are excited for the joyful reunion you will have with your family and friends. You have earned a hero’s welcome home.
Elder and Sister Jex will also be completing their missionary service. We extend our gratitude and love to them for their service in CASRM. We are grateful for their examples of discipleship to Jesus Christ given to us during their service in CASRM.
We are also excited to welcome our new missionaries. These 17 missionaries will be assigned to serve in each zone of CASRM. Please extend a loving welcome to each missionary. Please help them to experience our culture of high love and high expectations.
Over the next four transfers, our new arriving missionaries will number nearly 25% of our current mission total. That is a significant and exciting development. As we prepare for and consider the arrival of these new missionaries, I wish to extend the invitation found in Jacob 2:17:
“Think of your brethren (and sisters) like unto yourselves, and be familiar with all and free with your substance, that they may be rich like unto you.”
I love this invitation from Jacob to think of others like we do ourselves. Please remember the anxiety and uncertainty you felt during the early days of our mission. You longed for a friendly face and kind word. Please extend yourselves, as you have done in the past, in kindness and friendship to our new missionaries. Think of ways to make them feel welcomed and loved.
Jacob also invited his people to “be familiar with all.” I hope you will take the time to introduce yourself and to become “familiar”, a friend, to our new missionaries. Please get to know them and make connections that will help them feel at home in CASRM.
Finally, Jacob teach us to be “free with your substance.” As we welcome our new missionaries, the “substance” you can share with them is your experience, conviction, love, and testimony of the gospel. Please help these missionaries learn what it means to be a faithful missionary and disciple of Jesus Christ. As you exemplify the high love and high expectations of our culture in CASRM, our new missionaries will become “rich like unto you.” What a blessing for them and CASRM!
I am grateful for the Christ centered culture I experience and observe each day in CASRM. You are the reason the Savior is the central figure in CASRM. Thank you!
Love,
President Quinn
