The Lamb of God
The Lamb of God

As we prepare for Easter, I would like to continue sharing with you my thoughts about the events we remember this time of year. Of all the names we use to describe the Savior, the one I reverence most deeply is the Lamb of God. In his April 2019 General Conference talk, Elder Holland spoke beautifully about this name for the Savior. He taught:
“In the premortal councils of heaven, God had promised Adam and Eve (and all the rest of us) that help would come from His pure, unblemished Firstborn Son, the Lamb of God “slain from the foundation of the world,” as the Apostle John would later describe Him. By offering their own little symbolic lambs in mortality, Adam and his posterity were expressing their understanding of and their dependence upon the atoning sacrifice of Jesus the Anointed One.”
At the end of His brief mortal ministry, the Savior introduced and instructed His apostles that going forward the bread and water of the sacrament would replace the Pastoral lamb offered on the altar of the temple:
“And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body. And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it. And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many. (Mark 14:22-24)
I hope that as we prepare for Easter, we will exercise a deeper and more sincere reverence for the sacrament. Please remember that the bread and water of the sacrament are powerful emblems of the sacrifice made by the Lamb of God, our Savior, on behalf of each of us.
In addition to the sacrament this Easter season, please consider that in our temples, altars are placed in each endowment and sealing room as a symbol of sacrifice. To me, the frequent use of the altar in our temples is to remind us of God’s love – and to remind us of the divine role of the Lamb of God, our Savior Jesus Christ.
I know that Jesus Christ lives. That He rose on the third day, triumphant in meeting the demands of justice through His atoning suffering and over death through His resurrection. He gave His life in obedience to our Father in Heaven. He gave His life because of His love for each of us.
Thank you for your faithfulness, goodness, and discipleship. We love you!
Love,
President Quinn
