Pranks and Promises - A great week
We started off the week with Monday being April Fools Day - my birthday. It has been a tradition in our family to pull pranks on each other on April 1st. Our children teamed.up with our missionaries with a fun joke to tease us. Starting at 7:00 am President Quinn received a message from Elder Lee that he needed to have an “ET” - emergency transfer. He said that in ward council the Bishop had told him that he had dated his mother back in college at BYU and was now making it awkward between the two of them. At first we thought this was a real message and we were disappointed in the Bishop. The President said he would discuss this further at interviews this week. Soon after we got a second message saying that a sister missionary wanted to have an ET because her belt had broken in front of some friends they were teaching and her skirt had fallen down and now wanted to be emergency transferred because she said that she was too embarrassed to stay in her area. Again we said we would discuss this further at interviews. Right away a third ET request came in. Emergency transfers are just that an emergency. They do not happen very often. So at this point we started to realize they were all pranks. So as the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh request came in we were ready and teased back a silly answer.
I had set up a prank for President Quinn with our AP’s - assistants to the president missionaries, but decided to cancel it because after about the tenth ET request his antenna for pranks was on high alert.
Our sweet mission nurse, Sister Schneider with the help of two Senior missionaries, Sister Stock, and Sister Lemon organized all of our missionaries to send me a card for my birthday. When I went out to the mail box Monday afternoon I was surprised to see it packed full! What a great birthday treat! I have been reading the kind notes all week long. Some of the missionaries even slipped in a little treat for me in side the card such as a dollar bill, a Pokemon card, a baseball card, and even a pass along card. That really made me laugh. I had a wonderful birthday with phone calls and flowers and cookies being sent from my Sister Diane and a fun package from my cousin Christine. And of course my children and President Quinn had gifts for me.
The week consisted of attending district council in Cloverdale. Meeting with our technology missionaries and the highlight of the week was General Conference.
We had the Santa Rosa zone over for Sunday morning conference. I made six dozen cinnamon rolls for a treat for them. I so enjoy listening to conference. I felt like many of the speakers spoke of the promises of the covenants we make in the temple. The Lord is so good to us and I know his promises are sure. It was exciting to hear about 15 more temples being built. We were cheering for a temple in Santa Rosa, but no such luck this time… next time!
One more fun bit of news. Our son Chase was called to be the 2nd counselor in his ward’s bishopric in Texas. Because of this he needed to be ordained a high priest. His stake president encouraged him to have his dad be the one to ordain him. So, bless Chase’s heart, he and Maryssa and their two children flew in for the weekend. It was such special time for us. Along with the ordination we were able to visit the Golden Gate Bridge and collect some seashells at Bodega Bay.
I know this weekly update is being posted late. It has been a busy two weeks. I hope all is well for each one of you. Thanks for following my website. We think of you often and appreciate your love, support, and prayers. -
